Kimberly Ann Kaloyanides Kennedy, Associate Concertmaster of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, began her study of the violin at age five in Dayton, Ohio. Kaloyanides Kennedy, who became a member of the Detroit Symphony in 1998 at the age of 22, has been featured as soloist with many orchestras and has won many prestigious competitions around the nation.
She has been featured as soloist with the University of Michigan Symphony and University of Michigan Chamber Orchestra, as well as the Skokie Valley Symphony, the Harid Philharmonia, and the Dayton Community Orchestra. Kaloyanides Kennedy received her professional training at the University of Michigan and the Harid Conservatory. She performs regularly around the Detroit area with various ensembles including the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings and the Sonnet String Quartet in residence at Oakland University.
Kaloyanides Kennedy was a winner of the 1998 University of Michigan Concerto Competition, Grand Prize winner in the state round of the 1997 ASTA Competition, 1 st prize in the National Round of the 1996 MTNA Competition, was a winner in the 1996 Greek Women’s National Association, participated in the National Round of the 1996 ASTA Competition, and participated in the International 1998 Indianapolis Violin Competition of Joseph Gingold. She was awarded the Earle V. Moore Award in Music for outstanding performance her senior year from the University of Michigan.
Kaloyanides Kennedy was married March of 2000 to DSO horn player, Bryan Kennedy and now lives in Plymouth with their son, Ethan.
